Drew left for his TDY yesterday morning and Emma’s been “looking” for him ever since we came home Wednesday. She would sit on the chair next to the window and look out while every so often saying “dada, dada, dada.” It was pretty heartbreaking to see. I told Emma that daddy’s at work and he will be back later than usual. She shook her head like she understood and she quit asking as often but she would still look out the window… probably hoping daddy will show up.
So that night we slept together. She had a really good time sleeping with me and I had to try and not fall off the bed. Between Emma and the two dogs I really didn’t have much space left. It was nice though and I am really glad I have Emma while Drew is gone.

Emma is a none stop chatterbox. It doesn’t matter if it makes sense or not. Her words now are: Mama, dad, dog, bye-bye, hi, go, hot, up, down, drink, and baby.
I think when she’s older we have to get a regular phone line if cell phones are still by the minutes. I can’t imagine how much her cell phone bill will be.
Her new sign is butterfly.
This last weekend Emma stayed overnight at our neighbor’s home. This was the first time that we’ve left Emma overnight so that mom and dad can have a good time. Emma did well, ate her food, and slept all night. Mom and dad had fun too. Went to KC’s jazz district, had awesome soul food and live music. It was nice to have dinner without to say Emma sit, Emma no, Emma stop.

Emma has had dry diapers in more than 12 hours. She pee’d before bathtime… which was also before bedtime. She didn’t wet her diaper all night and she said yes, she’d like to go potty this morning. So she pee’d. She then asked to go potty again 10 minutes or so later… guess she needed to do the big job, which she did.
We’re hoping that she’s getting the hang of it but if she has dirty diapers here and there we’re ok with it. She’s only 14 months old and we realize that she’s a bit young to be potty trained all the way.

Another big accomplishment for Emma happened last night. We were finishing up dinner when Emma came up to me and signed “poop”. I thought she was just playing with us but Drew insisted that I take her to her potty (bought this last month to introduce Emma to potty training). She sat down on it, asked for her book, and stood up again after about 30 seconds. I asked her to sit back down and she obeyed. We started reading again and I heard this noise. I thought she went peepee but noooo, Emma went poopoo. WOW! I started laughing cause I couldn’t believe what just happened. Drew came in and he ran out again to get the camera. Emma… well she ran off and I had to chase her to wipe her butt. It was no big deal to her it seemed like. Usually when she did something new and exciting she’s clap her hands. I guess this was just poop
So that’s Emma’s big news. On April 14th 2005, at 14 months, she used her potty. Hope she keeps it up!

Emma’s starting to talk more. Besides the ASL, Emma’s learning to say cookies, doggy, duck, and bird. My new ASL words are telephone, grandpa, potty, cow, car, and horse.
It is getting really nice outside. Emma just wants to play and sit outside with mommy and daddy. This weekend grandma and grandpa Wilder are here. Emma stayed home and played with them. We even did a little bit of gardening. Emma was a good girl, I just stayed in the yard.
