Can’t keep up

by: Savitri

Like the title says, I can’t keep up with her no more. She learns two to five new words a day she does the most ridiculous things and is just going from one thing to the other within minutes. We watched martial arts movie today and she got into the fight scene. I wonder if she’d like Star Wars?

Today she said naughty and rice. Ok they’re not perfect, it was more naugh-hee and ice but she did try really hard to copy me. It was so cute when she dropped her food and of course Kato came after it seconds later. Emma screamed and came running to me saying naugh-hee while pointing to Kato.

Emma still signs too. For words she knows the signs for she would say the word and also sign it. Which I think is nice because sometimes she can’t say the words quite right. Like cookie she’d go coke-ee really quick. If you don’t know her, you’d think she was just making quaking noises.

She’s also getting to be very good at following commands, agreeing or disagreeing with me, and time outs. She would help me throw trash away, get my handbag, get her bag, grab her shoes and mine but that doesn’t always turn out right cause none would match, and alot of other things. If I asked if she likes a certain food she would nod and if she doesn’t she would spit it out, make a funny face, and then shake her head. She would give the right answer if people ask her questions that it’s making us curious whether she really understood or just got lucky. Time outs… well… not sure if it’s affective. She use to be upset when I do time outs but now she just sits there with a cute look on her face and she’d wait patiently for me to say time out’s over. It’s hard for me to not smile cause she just looks so darn cute sitting there looking all pathetic. When it’s all done, I would ask Emma if she’s sorry. She’d nod very seriously. Then I’d tell her to give me a hug and she’d get up and give me the nicest little hug with a little pat-pat on the back. Then we’d be friends again till the next time she’s naughty. I mean she doesn’t do the behavior again… well at least not till some days later or so but she just didn’t seem to mind the time outs. Oh well.

we’re having a great time together. Wish dada’s here.

Weeks without dad

by: Savitri

It’s been about three weeks now and Emma still misses dad. Every so often she would say/sign dada. She’ll go over to Drew’s picture and give him a kiss, or she’ll just haul our family picture around with her. She’s been a really good girl though and she’s alot of fun to be with for the most part. After all, she is a toddler :)

Emma is a little talker. Alot of it doesn’t make sense but she’s trying. She’ll try to say at least the first part of the word. She does know how to say grandma and grandpa… she’ll say nana and papa. We’ll just keep practicing till she gets it right.

I also gave Emma candy for the first time yesterday. It was Starburst and hmmm she loved it. I signed candy for her and that was the first sign that she learned in 10 minutes and in just two showings. Oh yeah, she got that candy down! It was faster than ice cream!!!

This weekend we’re not sure what to do yet. We thought of going to a German festival, I think it’s Maifest, but still not sure. I think I need to go to KC but not sure why so I guess it must not be very important.

School is doing well. I only have one class but it’s keeping me busy. Alot of papers and research to do. Still thinking about a Ph.D. after though, but again not sure.

Will write more later for now, ciao!

Talking

by: Savitri

Emma is babbling more and her babbling is starting to be more understandable. She’ll try to say fish while signing it. She’ll say bird and duck. She’ll say hi while waving. She’ll try to copy me on whatever I say that interest her but usually what I heard are the first two letters of the words. Her dog, mama, and daddy she does very well. Tbose words are important, they’re her closest family members.

So I don’t think her signing is slowing her speech at all. She’s starting to speak like the average kids her age. We’re having a really great time with her. Listening to her talk and watching her do the silliest things.

Emma and grandma

by: Savitri

Emma’s grandma and grandpa Wilder came to visit this last weekend. Emma had a very good time with them. While grandpa was busy with dad fixing all the trucks, us girls went to the city. We went to the Plaza, had some dimsum, and did some shopping.

Even though grandmas are always impress with their grandbabies, grandma Wilder was extremely impress on how Emma communicated her wants. For example, it was chilly after eating lunch in the city and Emma signed cold. Mama asked if Emma was cold and Emma nodded. So grandma helped Emma put my little sweater on. Emma felt all better after that. At home Emma wanted a cookie so Emma signed cookie. Grandma wanted to give Emma some Easter cookies but it was not what I wanted. Emma wanted the chocolate chip that mommy hides on top of the fridge. So Emma said no, signed cookie again, and pointed to the top of the fridge. Grandma had to give Emma the chocolate chip cookie.

Emma’s something else and Emma’s always doing something that’s amazing in mom and dad’s eyes.

15 months

by: Savitri

Time is going by… Emma is 15 month today. She’s learned so much and she’s just the cutest little girl. She seems to understand everything I say, which is a bit weird still for me. Since Drew’s been gone I’ve been “talking” to Emma more and she’d nod in agreement or in disagreement.

She’s learning more words too. She would say baba for bottle, Kato, nigh-nigh for night-night, bah for bath, baaa-bee for baby, bak for back, on, off, and some more things that I can’t remember… I’ll write them down next time. She just did that overnight, decided to talk. It was the day Drew left. They’re not clear but since she says it and sign it I understood what she was talking about.

She’s still signing. Her new word is ice cream. I think there’s another one but I am really brain dead right now.

I will write more later. It’s almost the weekend. We’re going to KC to do some shopping, eating out, and sight seeing.
