Thanksgiving

by: Savitri

We had 15 people, including Emma, at our Thanksgiving dinner this year. We even had grandma and grandpa Wilder over from Mississippi.

Emma was very good throughout the dinner preperation. She played or watched a movie (yes, she had more TV than she’s suppose to). But, it helped me get my turkey all nice and somewhat juicy (it’s not perfect like I wanted it to be… just enough juice to not be dry) and get the table and everything else set. Everybody had a good time and that was what’s important.

After Thanksgiving Emma, grandma, and I went to the city to do some holiday shopping and also to get Emma some new shoes. Before shopping we had to stop to eat (of course) and the place I chose was Korma Sutra. Very good Indian and very generous too on everything. We did their lunch buffet and that was good. Usually I do not like buffets because it’s sometimes dry and/or old but the Korma was good. With our meal we got bread, papadan, lasi, and chai tea. Everything was refillable which makes this place a must go again! We were stuffed that afternoon. The shopping was good, we found what we could find, but we almost lost Emma at JC Penny’s. She was just running around, tired of her stroller, and I was chasing her. Sometimes I would loose sight of her little legs and I’d loose her but her giggles were still heard. After one of those incident she was done. The buying shoes wasn’t pleasant either. It’s hard when you’re wanting your kid to try a pair on and all she wants to do is sit and draw. The lady at Nordstroms were very nice though and got Emma a balloon so that Emma will try on her shoes. So we came home with cute shoes.

Saturday daddy and mommy had a date day… very rare for us! We did some Emma Christmas shopping, dinner, and a movie. Went to see Harry Potter. It was good, of course. Funny though, most of the audience were adults with no kids… hmmm… I guess the target audience for their marketing campaign needs to change now :) But, wish we’re closer to the city. So many better places to eat. We went to a dumplings and noodle place in Westport (an area in Kansas City) called the Blue Koi. The Westport area reminds me of the Hyde Park area in Boise but with more businesses, residential area with more small unique shops, good food, and bars. It’d be nice to live there, go out, and wobble home… for sure no DUI. Then for dinner we went to a sushi restaurant Kobe. It’s not new but new for us since we usually go to Siki. It was pretty good, besides the fried tofu on the miso soup we like everything about the place. The sushi were fresh.

While we went out Emma stayed with grandma and grandpa and was very, very good. She saw Santa and she sat on his lap without crying. She even told him she wanted toys. The next day she said, “Kanka Klas” and then “toys” when we asked her if she asked for anything from Santa. She’s getting excited I think for Christmas. The house is different with a tree, all the decorations, and presents.

Besides all the fun stuff we slept in a lot. Emma thought it was nice to have all these love around her and she was nice to everybody. She sat on grandma, grandpa, and dad’s lap even though I’m there. This is a big thing since she’s usually a momma’s girl. It gave me time to relax too. But we did a lot of playing and learning too. I bought Emma some flash cards and we’re learning colors and more reading besides numbers. Emma can cout to 10 now… well almost. She skips 7 and she’s say one number one time and not the other time. But for the most part she knows 1-10 and if you show her your one hand she’ll say five. She knows one and two as a quantity and not just words. I’ll give her two things and she’ll say she has two. Last night we counted Christmas magnets and we went from 1-10. Grandma had it on video, of course.

So that’s Thanksgiving. Hope everybody had a great one too!
