Culture Night

by: Savitri

Like the past semesters, we go to culture night each time it’s held. Why? It brings back some college memories. Different of course since I was in Idaho but it’s better than nothing.

I had a lot of fun in college preparing for Intl’ night, Chinese New Years, and African Night. We had about 750 people for each event and the food and shows are alway great. At Idaho State University we had the luxury to use Sodexho’s kitchen. So we’d select 12-15 dishes and cook a large amount of them. We always have volunteers from the high schools so the whole preperation event was a very cultural experience in itself.

We were very good. By the time I left we had a food, transportation, public relations, donations, cleanup, entertainment, and a few others set up. So yes, once the show is over, we all can go home. It was great! I was always the food leader – maybe cause I use to work at Sodexho as a cashier and they thought I had connections. Either way, it was all good. Food was abundant and we always started on time. That was the biggest complaint from the previous years.

So here’s Emma in her little Chinese outfit. She was the only one dressed up. I have nothing appropriate to wear :D

The Banner is Me – My Second Life

by: Savitri

Welcome to our blog site!!! Here you will find (hopefully) up-to-date information on Savitri and Andrew’s little family in Missouri. We are an Air Force family, so many of our family and friends are not near. To keep in touch and to see how things are going with us we came up with this site.

Today I have decided to add some Podcast. What’s that? Well Podcasts are audio/audio files that are automatically downloaded to your computer. Do you have to have an iPod? No. You just need to install a podcast receiver on your computer. But, if you do have a portable device (e.g. iPod), you can transfer the downloaded files to your portable. Some of my files are not all iPod friendly, so if you use iTunes, you might not get some of my none iTunes friendly extension. I like to use iPodder or now called Juice.

How do you set it up? Well, download a podcast reader first. Then you want to copy this url: http://www.planetwilder.com/?feed=rss2 and paste it into your reader. This tells your reader that you want to subscribe to my page. You can subscribe to many other podcast, like CNN and Comedy Central. You can learn French or Excel, etc. Each time you open your receiver your computer will automatically download new files. So if I have a new video/audio, you automatically receive the file without going to my site. It’s like your magazine subscription… no more buying it at the store, you get the magazine delivered to your doorstep!!

Too Many Parts

by: Savitri

I know, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but I’m really excited about Christmas this year. Maybe it’s cause I have more Christmas decor than any other season and with the new house, I’m really excited to get this place in the winter mood!

Before I get on with the story let me start with Emma’s room. Her room is always, and I say ALWAYS, messy. I’d clean it and of course she’s there so one side would be clean and the other, which I JUST cleaned, would be messy. Almost EVERY single toy of hers has small annoying little parts which of course would be in different places. Every day I’d put her things away and every time it’s never to my satisfaction.

So while I was flipping through some catalogs (I’m the mail order queen here) I became quite annoyed. EVERYTHING has a little part to it. Check this page out from Land of Nod,  it’s insane!!! The Bingo game is a great idea, but I know for sure that those pieces would be all over the place in no time. I got Emma some cards. There’s a bucket for it but of course half of the cards are always everywhere else but the bucket.

Maybe I’m not a good mommy for not being supportive of all these little pieces but dang, I just hate those little clutters. Talked about it with Drew and he said, “she’s just 2.” But I just want a tidy 2-year-old. Is there such a thing?

Anyways, I’ll probably end up with the Bingo game but if I do, I know I’d be complaining about it when it comes time to clean up.
