Fourth Anniversary

Savitri

Wow, four years and we are still going. For this year’s celebration we decided to do movie and a dinner night. For the movie we chose Transformers and Harry Potter. Great movies, huh? Maybe not the most romantic of the bunch but they were both what we wanted to see.

We watched Transformers first. It was good. I can’t remember anything from the past on these characters so I just sat down and watched the movie. I must say, quite good on the CG, and the storyline wasn’t so bad. It wasn’t all action and I was entertained. Drew of course was super psyched about the whole deal. He was a kid again those few hundreds of minutes. He said it was worth the $14 we spent.

Speaking of $14. I can’t believe that’s how much a matinée cost. It’s been a while since we went to one and I remember paying $4 or so for my tickets. Now it’s $7/pp. Wow, inflation did happen. Next time we go, it’d probably be $12/pp.

Dinner was the highlight of the evening (even though Transformers was still awesome in Drew’s mind). We went to Le Fou Frog, a quaint French restaurant. We got there early, a little past 5 p.m., so we decided to take a little walk. It was in the City Market area, so a lot of bars, other restaurants, and Chinese markets. So I had to check the last place out. I must say, woah! Fresh fish, crabs, crawfish, you name it. It was like going to an Asian market minus the wet floor. The smell though was STRONG! I wanted a drink but of course we had no cash and the minimum for a card charge was $10. Tight wad me, didn’t want to spend the money and plus I couldn’t find anything I wanted to buy anyways that would last in the car for a good 3-4 hours. We left and waited in the car for a few minutes before going in.

From the second we walked in, the restaurant screamed CHARMING. Although you can get French cuisine anywhere, not all have the atmosphere. This place does and I wish we had taken pictures. The culinary experience (with the martini and wine)… AWESOME! The best was the cheese. It was almost like being in France. We had three kinds, Brie-like, Roquefort, and a goat cheese. Yum! The escargot was just covered in butter and herbs. Between the two appetizers, I think we went through 5 baskets of bread. It was amazing that we were able to eat all of our main course, a fish and shrimp dish that I won’t try to describe except that they were very good and also dessert. By dessert though, we were pretty stufffed. But since the dessert consisted of a lot of dark chocolate, Drew couldn’t quit eating. He said his mouth felt tired from all the great taste. After a two and a half hour dinner, we finally left. Very content and definitely with no more room in our stomach to spare.

Harry Potter? That was a bust. Next time. I’d fall asleep the minute I get in there! Instead we stopped at Barnes and Nobles, read a few and bought a few, and two hours later we went home. Ok, you probably are thinking, “they could have gone to the movies.” Yes, but the darkness would have done it.

Great night and can’t wait to go back there again for my birthday! We’ll have to try the soup next time. We’re glad we didn’t get it since the portion was quite large. We wouldn’t have made it to the main course.
