Emma’s First Stitches

[thumb:1497:l] The first day, Sept. 20th, we were back we had to go in to the hospital. Our neighbor’s metal and heavy bar stool fell on top of Emma and made a big cut on her right top forehead. I was napping when all this happened and just remembered Drew screaming telling me to get up because we had to go to the hospital. Drew and Emma went to town before I napped and I thought they had a horrible car accident. When we got to the neighbor’s house, there was Emma, crying hysterically and blood all over the place. I got her, hoped in the car and didn’t even bother putting Emma in her car seat. We just used my seatbelt and she sat on my lap while I held the ice pack tight against her head.

We got into ER right away and by this time, Emma was calm and soon after she fell asleep (jet lag). The nurse got the numbing medicine and bla bla but by the time the doctor was ready to stitch her up, Emma was fully awake and not cooperating. After much agony, Drew asked them to quit and asked if we can just give her anesthesia so that she can go into surgery for her stitches instead. That’s what we ended up doing. Emma was great, very cooperative, but then we found out we had to stay for the night. Just in case. Great way to spend our second night home! We had a great time at the hospital :\ Emma got 12 stitches. Amazingly enough, she was just fine the next day. No major pain.

[thumb:1512:r] Despite all the hoopla a couple weeks ago, Emma’s back to normal again and with the way her hair is, you can barely see the wound. We were discharged on Friday so we had the weekend to recuperate. But again, she was just as usual, sometimes freaking me out because I was afraid she’d bump her head. I guess kids bounce back really quickly. If it had been me, I’d probably be still in bed moping how painful my head is.

So check our her picture. See the stitches? But really, you got to look, huh?

What places we will see … but I can’t see Emma’s stitches. Glad all is okay. Katy still talks about her trip to the Sun Valley Hospital after she was hit in the head by a “flying” wind-blown umbrella. She said she remembers (I don’t) one of the patients there had been bitten by a bear …

I am glad Emma is okay and that she wasn’t too traumatized by the ferocious flying chair. But, look at this way, too-she has a momento to remember her 1st trip oversees. When she touches her barely recognizable scar, she will remember all the fun that she had. Best wishes for more enjoyable trips here and abroad!
