Boise vs Kansas City

Savitri

I never thought that I’d be in Warrensburg for almost five years (end of Dec. is the five year mark). It’s a small town and I never thought that I’m the small town kind of girl. But, despite the size, it is not far from KC and I thought I’d list the likes and dislikes of living in and around the two cities:

- Although Boise had some good eateries and I heard it’s grown since I left KC has A LOT more options and a lot more are top notch.
- There’s a killer Dim Sum restaurant in KC although damn I miss Boise’s taco truck on 6th and Main.
- There’s the Pottery Barn (Kids too), Crate and Barrel, and Bombay Company in KC but I wish there’s something like the Boise Co-Op here.
- Besides the above favorite stores, the malls in KC is a lot better. Love the Plaza, Town Center, and Overland Park Mall.
- Tons of antique stores around us — I can’t keep up!
- Boise has more outdoorsy options it seems unless you just love the lake and you can’t run out of them around here. But that’s ok for me since I’m not really the mother nature type although I wouldn’t mind fishing one day and try real camping although I do enjoy the casual hike — not one where I have to hurry to get to somewhere.
- There’s no bar right where the movie theatre is at like the one that Boise has — no walking into the movies drunk. Well you can but it’s a few wobbly blocks away.
- Boise has a nice downtown area but KC has more unique places to walk around and shop, even little quaint towns like Parkville and Lexington.
- There are more used bookstores too and used anything really. It’s fun to go into some of the shops in Westport and try on some vintage outfit or find a Bantam Hercule Poirot.
- Although we haven’t had a chance to enjoy a whole lot of nightlife (parenthood changes all that ya know) there are a lot more places to go in KC but I do miss downtown Boise, maybe I just miss the memories of it, not sure. We both had a great time there, the short time we were there together.
- Boise’s Saturday farmer’s market. KC has one, but too far.
- Miss the Boise greenbelt. A different past memory maybe that I miss but it was still overall nice.

What KC and Boise doesn’t have:
- A good airport! It ain’t Chicago, JFK, or LAX — direct from there to some foreign country. Ok, maybe you can go to Canada from here… not sure tho.

Comparing my life to five years ago
- I actually have a husband and I wouldn’t know what to do without him and the little brat.
- I am more edumecated :D Got my Master Degree :D:D
- I have some meat in me (I actually need to start working out, getting close to being muscle-less)
- I was living in a city and not 30-45 minutes away like now.
- I love my jobs and the people I work with. I am in geek world but at the same time I’m socializing.
- Cost of living is a lot less than Boise while taking home more.
- I have lots more friends here but the few that I had in Boise I miss very much.
- Tornadoes. This is the only thing that makes this place not so great.
- Before I was more yuppy and neutral (I guess) and now in between yuppy and hoity-toity.
- I shop at a lot of grocery stores instead of just the Co-Op and something else — buying organic/natural here is like a scavenger hunt.
- My hobby has exploded and collecting more every month
- I know what I want to do when I grow up
- I have a great commute
- I love our home and the shabby chic ideas and items that I have for it
