Mommy’s Yuppie Store
This came out of Emma’s mouth, “Mommy likes to shop at the yuppie store by the mall.” I thought Drew’s been putting words in my little girl’s mouth but I guess she came up with it herself. I mean Drew did help. He always say I’m a yuppie from the day we met (I’m not sure what a yuppie is). There were many reasons why he called me this but it was mostly because I liked to buy stuff at the “healthier” food store. Organic stuff is easier to come by nowadays but back then, in Boise, I had to go to the Co-Op or shop at the Saturday Boise market to get what I needed. When we moved here it was tough. A few things at BiLo’s, some at Parkers, a few at WalMart, and in the summertime the local people (still, can’t compare to the Boise market!). Then the base started carrying more stuff and so we’d shop there for most of our stuff. But then they got random, they’d carry one item and then they’d quit some shopping trips later. So now we’re just shopping in town (the stores carry more now) and the city.
I’m not sure I didn’t find this store sooner but recently we’ve been stopping at the Nature’s Pantry in Independence. I love that place. Going in there reminds me of going into the Co-Op but with more organization and no imported cheese. When you want to find yogurt, you’re not confused about finding the healthiest one or hope they carry the organic type but you’re confused because there are so many brands of great yogurts AND flavors. So instead of spending 5 minutes reading the labels looking for some bad ingredients, you’re reading the labels trying to see which has the less fat and/or calories. So yogurt might be a bad example because we have a favorite but you get the picture.
I’m not a picky eater. I eat anything but if I have the choice and I’m serving this food to my family I’d try to get as much natural/organic as possible. I really believe that this choice does our bodies good. We hardly ever get sick. I can’t remember the last time Emma had to stay home because she caught something at school. I guess the only down side of that is that I have a lot of sick time accumulated. Granted I might get cancer when I’m 50 at least I do my best to take care of myself and if I get to live to 90, I’d still be a healthy person.
So every so often when we go to the city, we’d stop at Nature’s Pantry and Brookside Barkery (to get the dogs they’re healthy food and snack) and that’s why Emma came up with “mommy’s yuppy store.” Ahh…..
