Day 132: French Market + Argos
Drew had to work over the weekend so he missed out on an outing but us girls had a fabulous time in Ely. This time we went to the French market and on top of the usual stuff there were a few extra booths of French yummies like Crepe, cheese, sausages, pates, bread, and musicians. Ok, the last was not edible but still delicious to the ears {::SMILES}.
Last time we were in Ely the weather was still a bit chilly so we didn’t walk around much but Saturday we did and we saw the HUGE church (no pictures because I didn’t bring the wide angle and the 50mm just didn’t do it justice), found out where all the banks are (no fee ATMs, important stuff!!), found a few restaurants (including a Thai one — no meatball soup though), the mobile store (I still need to get one), a YUMMY pastry store (they had the breads I grew up with… filled with cheese and meats… oh the one I got was DIVINE!! Reminded me of growing up in Indonesia and visiting Bandung — the capital of West Java — and going to the Dutch pastry shop), got lost in some alley ways (M didn’t know we were lost though he he), and found this interesting store called Argos.
After I got here Drew showed this HUGE catalog. An Argos catalog. Just imagine a Sears/WalMart all in one. Just HUGE catalog and you can pretty much buy anything through it. So when I saw this Argos store in Ely I was thinking that the little door is going to take me to a huge warehouse as soon as I walked in. WRONG! I walked in to a small store with a number 1, 2, and 3 on the walls. Under number 1 there were catalogs. In the number 2 area there were cash register and number 3 was pick-up. Well, I guess when you walk into an Argos you flip through the catalog, go pay, and then pick-up. Which of course made me think that behind wall number 3 there’s this HUGE warehouse stocked pile with all sorts of stuff.
I didn’t bring my wide angle so I couldn’t take a photo of the whole store but this below that I “borrowed” gives you an idea of what I saw in Ely (minus the dancing kids). I walked in, catalogs on the right, cash register on the left and a pick-up in the back. Now, there’s an Argos Extra that I saw too on their site. I am guessing that’s their real store but until I go see it in person (in Cambridge) I’ll save my writing for later.
This is the fabulous part about living overseas instead of just visiting. One gets to experience these types of things.
