Day 183: Ice Cream

Jovie and I

There’s me again. I was holding Jovie’s ice cream… or our ice cream while Drew took pictures. It was more Jovie’s mouth, covered in goo, that was more interesting but since I don’t have a lot of me pictures and here’s a tiny bit of me I thought I’d share.

Day 182: Reading

by: Savitri

M Reading a Book

Miss Emma really enjoys reading. It’s great that the UK school system really focuses on this favorite subject of hers (amongst others).

M is in year one here in the UK. I think this is the same with all schools but her school has names for the classroom. Her year one class is called the Owls class. The class below is the Robins and next year M going to Goldfinch. Year one is equivalent to kindergarten in the US. Although I have no way of measuring I believe that the level here is a tad bit higher than the US. The reading is definitely more advanced and I am almost sure the maths is too. It’s a great thing that M was a top reader in her class in MO because if not she’d be behind. This last week she got her first report card and M did excellent in her two favorite subjects. So very proud of her!!

I hope she continues this love of hers just like me. I LOVE to read. I got it from my grandpa. He read a lot of books and a lot of my favorite classics I got from him. I’ve moved on from fiction to non-fiction although my favorite fiction is still Gone with the Wind. It just reminded me of my grandpa. It was the first adult book he made me read. He said I was a bit young for it, I think I was a sophomore in high school, but he said it had great characters which it did. We had a wonderful time talking about the book. This was the best part about reading books that he suggested — or to be more exact: Told me to read — because afterward we get to talk about it. It really was the best book club ever, just him and I.

All his books are supposedly still at his old home. Most likely collecting dust. Such a waste if that’s the case. There’s one book he said he’d give me after his passing because I asked for it. It was our favorite book and it’s what built most of my character and confidence (although Scarlet O’Hara has some influence also). I am who I am because of it. My grandpa always reference this character – mostly her strength, cleverness, and smarts. I never got it because one of my cousin supposedly had a dream about… hmmm… not sure…. it was either my grandpa wanting a library at his old house or he wanted all his books to stay in one spot or something of that nature but because of this I never got my book. My aunt is adamant about keeping all the books in the library. He died without a will so there’s me with no book. Sadly it’s the only thing I wanted, still want, from him and for Indonesia’s standard he was a millionaire… I am though curious as to what happened to a German magazine that I gave him. I wonder if it’s in the library too. If only they knew where that magazine came from ha ha ha {::EVIL EVIL EVIL SMILE}.
