Max, Training the Lhasa

by: Savitri

[thumb:1489:r] Before getting to Max, let me get to Emma first.

Yesterday, while Emma was rummaging through the closet looking for some footwear before school, she found a penny. We then had the following conversation (more less):

E: Mommy, look what I found!
M: Cool, Emma. What are you going to do with the penny?
E: I’m going to put it in my purse.
M: Em, you can bring money to school. Lets just put it in the piggy bank for now.
E: I just want to put it in my purse.
M: Ok, but leave the purse at home.
E: Ok, but mommy, I need more money for my purse.
M: Mommy doesn’t have any money Emma.
E: If you go to work, you can make me more money.
M: (speechless)

Ahhh… now I know why she lets me go to work :\

Take Max out, please.
When you get home, don’t let him out right away.
Just ignore him and give him a good 5 minutes.

Get some snacks.
I have some chicken in the fridge.
It’s only for SPECIAL training.
Like the below.

Max, week 1

by: Savitri

Well, after one week, Max has improved quite a bit. He doesn’t piddle anymore. When we first got him, he’d piddle when somebody picked him up and before he was let out of the crate. Now it’s “piddle no more” :D He’s also more comfortable with his crate. When we got him, he was crate friendly, meaning he’ll stay quiet in the crate. But he wouldn’t voluntarily go in there. Now, with a Kong, he can go in there happily, not even look when I close the crate and be a good pup until I let him out. He is also learning to not be so excited when I open the crate door. He still gets excited but not as much and he’d back away from the door (he used to scratch at it a lot more before I open). So the excitement is still there, still some scratches, but better. We’ll work on that. He also doesn’t bark or whine when I come home or just plain show up. He’ll wag his tail now but doesn’t expect me to open and let him our soon after I come in to the room he’s in.

We saw the person from Fury Pals Refuge, Carla, the other day and she said that Max is looking so good. He’s more confident and the noticed the no piddles too. She commented on how well he stays calm in the crate and she gave me the whole history on Max.

Maximus Monk – the Lhasa Apso

by: Savitri

The new addition to our family and mostly my dog. He was a rescue pup and I adopted him from Furry Kids Refuge. [thumb:1438:r]

I’ve been looking for a dog after Kato left. It’s been a while since I obtained a dog so I had to do some research on which type I like and would be good for our family (with a young child and a dog). Before I left for our vacation, I was very interested in a Maltese or a mix of it (I was only going to adopt, so really whatever that I like that I find) because of it’s nature and I must just like hair dogs. They’re super cute too. But after emailing different rescues, none wanted to let me adopt one because of Emma’s age. Which is understandable but wish that it was more on a family basis… check out the kid first before deciding. So, I still didn’t want to buy a pup, just didn’t seem right. So last weekend, I told Drew that we’d just go to the city, visit a Petco or two, maybe a few shelters and see what they had.
